Where the Mind is Without Fear
by Raji Johnson,
Austin, Texas
Where the
mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where women are counted as persons
And Children are awed by Your mysteries in the language they speak
Where words come out from the depth of Truth
Where Your body has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow denominational walls
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards Perfection
Where correct teaching has not lost its way
Into dreary desert sand of dead habits and call it 'Traditions'
Where men and women see Your image
in each other and peoples around them
Where Your disciples are not obsessed with
the thrones of East or West, Coptic or Syrian
And where the great passion is
not bashing the Protestants and Catholics
But the mind is led forward by Your Words
Where You are the potter and we the pots
And where selflessness dominates narcissism
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that Kingdom of God, my Father,
Let Your Church awake.
