Recollections of Retreat 1999

You Can Be Hot or Cold; But Don't Be Lukewarm (Neither Hot nor Cold)

Revelation 3:16 suggests that God hates those who are lukewarm. He will spit out those.

I know you well - you are neither hot nor cold; I wish you were one or the other! But since you are merely lukewarm, I will spit you out of my mouth. (Rev 3:15-16)

We all know that we can food without getting spoiled by keeping it hot (as on a stove or oven) or very cold (like in a refrigerator or freezer). When the food is hot or very cold, the bacteria cannot attack it and so, it won't get spoiled. But when the food is lukewarm, as when it is at room temperature, it gets readily attacked by bacteria and will get spoiled very quickly. Such food cannot be eaten; it need to be spitted out of the mouth to prevent us from getting sick.

Be with Jesus. Be strong in your faith and convictions. You can keep the devil from tempting you. If you are wavering in your faith or convictions, the satan will tempt you and you can fall. "The God may have to spit you out."

Remember the story of Soul, who became St. Paul. Saul was persecuting Christians all over. Jesus appeared before him and asked him, "Why are you hurting me?"

Now Soul did not hurt Jesus personally. But when we do something that hurt the believers, we are hurting Jesus Himself. We will be accountable for them just as if we did that to Jesus personally.

As Christians, we need to stick together and enjoy the fellowship to keep us alive.

The purpose of our service is to keep us warmed up.

We can look at this in another way. If we ask Jesus for only what we need at this time and entrust him to keep the others we don't need, we can keep them from getting spoiled. So, when we pray ask only what we really need.
