The church is often characterized as the Bride in the bible. Jesus has given us the engagement ring. But we got away from Him. We lost our ring. We lost our clothes. We lost our vision. We had got into sin and is like an engaged bride who had been defiled by someone else. But Jesus is still waiting. He is hoping that we will get out of sinful ways so that the marriage can ultimately take place in heaven. How long will he wait?
Revelation 3:17 says:
You say "I am rich, with everything I want. I don't need a thing!" And you don't realize that spiritually you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.
Now there is some cost involved in getting these things back. Some things are free. But others cost us. Revelation suggests what that cost is:
My advise to you is to buy pure gold from me, gold purified by fire - only then will you truly be rich. And to purchase from me white garments, clean and pure, so you won't be naked and ashamed; and to get medicine from me to heal your eyes and give you back your sight.
The bride who lost her engagement ring, her clothes, and her eyesight can have all of them back. But it cost her. She can buy gold from which the ring can be constructed. She can buy white clothes so that she won't be naked any more. She can get her eyesight. Then she will be ready to receive Jesus back into her life.
Jesus is waiting. Revelation 3:20 states:
I have been standing at the door and I am constantly knocking. If anyone hears me calling him and opens the door, I will come in and fellowship with him and he with me.
Jesus is waiting for us. All we need to do is turn away from our sinful ways, repent and then knock at the door for his forgiveness and acceptance. It is as simple as that.
Revelation 21:7 suggests that:
Everyone who conquers (overcomes the sinful ways) will inherit all these blessings, and I will be his God and he will be my son.
We can make a start at this retreat. We can start getting our ring, clothes and the sight at this retreat itself.
