Recollections of Retreat 1999

Don't Relax Because You Are With God Now. It Doesn't Take Much To Fall Into Sin and Satan

We often get into the trap of relaxing thinking that we are immune to Satan; this is probably the time we get very vulnerable. We can take the example of Peter. Look at Mathew 16:15-17,23.

We see that here Jesus is blessing Peter because Peter recognized Him to be who He truly is, the Son of God. Jesus congratulates Peter that this was revealed to him by the God himself and not by anyone else. However, we see a few verses down that when Jesus started talking about what he has to do to save mankind, Peter start privately telling him not to say those kind of things. And Jesus immediately scolds Peter, "Get away from me, you Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me." It did not take much time to fall from God's grace into Satan's trap.

We cannot continue to live without temptations. We have to be alert all the time. If Satan can trap Peter, what can happen to us?

Be careful what you pray for. Don't ask for things that are dear to Satan. You can get rebuked by God.

No one who has become part of God's family makes a practice of sinning, for Christ, God's Son, holds him securely and the devil cannot get his hands on him. We know that we are children of God and the whole world around us is under Satan's power and control. (1 John 5:18-19)

The best way to keep Satan away is by being close To Jesus and be under his control. We come under Satan's control when we do things that are of displeasing to God; when we sell ourselves to Satan. Isaiah 50:1 says that "we sold ourselves for our sins."

How Long Will God Wait? Time For Action Is Now.

God had been patient with us. In spite of our disobedience, in spite our doing what was not pleasing to God, Jesus had been patiently waiting for us to turn away from sin and to accept him so that he can complete the wedding. We had been too preoccupied to do this. God is patient. But there is a limit to his patience. He won't waif for ever. This could be an ideal opportunity for us to turn away from the hold of Satan and to move towards the God. Let us be purified so that we can see the God. Let us say good bye to all sins that keep us from seeing Him. That is the best guarantee of us becoming one in God. Let us use this retreat as the springboard to do this. And then we will be able to taste God.

Keep a close watch on all you do and think. Stay true to what is right and God will bless you and use you to help others. 1 Timothy 4:16
