God Used To Be More Active In The Old Testament Times. He Made More Personal Appearances
Now this was not like that in the early days. At that time, God used to communicate directly with people in this earth. For example, God, himself, has appeared to Moses in Mt. Sinai. We read that God's appearance was accompanied by fire, lightening and smoke.
God realized that these personal appearances were not accomplishing much. For example, God provided Moses with two tablets containing the Ten Commandments. Bible says that these tablets were the creation of God. We know what happened. They were destroyed.
God realized that if He come to the earth and see all the disobedience of us, He will get very upset. And when God, gets upset, it is not very healthy.
We Need To Prepare To See God
To see God, we need to prepare for it.
When you think about it, that should not be of much surprise. Before coming to the earth, a child spends 9 months in the mother's womb, to get acclimatized, to prepare for the arrival on the earth. So, is it any wonder that before we can SEE God, we need to prepare for the event?
It had been suggested that "Jesus Christ is the visible image of the invisible God."
Now God has a practical problem. The God, the Father, decided to limit his visits because He gets upset whenever He sees the condition of this world closely. He sent His son Jesus Christ to this world, hoping that may be the son can take care of the communication part - something like a middle man.
When Jesus Christ came to this world, only handful of people recognized Him for what He was - the son of God. See, as soon as Jesus came to this world, everyone was trying to kill Him. Remember Herod? He thought that his throne is not safe if Jesus is in this world. So, he wanted to get rid of the child. Poor Mary. She had to get up from giving birth to Jesus and run away to save him.
Jesus gave many speeches when he was in this world. His first speech turned off the elders in the church. So, they were trying to get rid of him from that time. The bible says that they took him to a mountain, to get rid of him - to shut up his mouth so to speak. But Jesus mysteriously disappeared from there. This was Jesus' first miracle. The first miracle was not converting water into wine as many have suggested.
Jesus had twelve disciples. They heard all the speeches he made. But did that do any good? When Jesus was in the cross, there was only one disciple standing at the foot of the cross.
