After Resurrection Disciples Thought He Was A Ghost And Ran Away!
Even after Jesus' resurrection, he continued to have problem with his disciples. When he appeared in their midst, they thought he was a ghost. They were scared. Jesus could not effectively reveal himself. Jesus said, "Peace be with you." They ran away, scared stiff. See the problems faced by Jesus? If this is the situation with God, how can it be any different for us?
What is clear is that none of the disciples REALLY knew Jesus. They all had their ideas. And they were all wrong. This is true for us too. We really do not know others. The husband may think he knows his wife and vice versa. They don't. It is a mystery. Only God knows all the details.
The same situation happens to us on our daily lives. We may think of our spouses as ghosts. We just may not understand them. The same could be said about our relationship with our children, priests, siblings, parents and others. So, when this thing happens to us, remember that Jesus had experienced it first. We are not alone on this.
Jesus Didn't Give Up On His Disciples. We Shouldn't Either.
Important lesson here is that Jesus didn't give up when he realized that his disciples didn't recognize him. It certainly made him unhappy and disappointed. If it was us, we would certainly have went back to the father and told Him, "We can forget about those guys. They cannot be fixed. Let us get rid of them and start all over again. We do not need them."
When we experience similar difficulties, we easily give up. This is how divorces happen. We enter marriage life with high expectations. May be too much expectations that our spouse won't be able to deliver. Remember we really do not know the other person.
Let us illustrate. I know of a doctor couple. The female went to India and married another doctor who had completed his MBBS. He joined her later in the USA. He started to write his certification exam so that he can join residency. Unfortunately, he didn't pass the examination till 7 years later. And when he did, it was very tough to into residency program. Another 2 years went by. He stayed home watching kids. The wife will go and work. H was getting upset with his condition. So, the wife will come and give him the money as soon as she comes home. Slowly, his only preoccupation was with money. He did not care how, so long the money is there. The communication gap grew little bigger.
The problem exploded, for the wife, one day. It was a snowy December day. The car broke down on the road. She managed to get it towed to a service station and have it fixed. So, when she reached home it was very late. She expected that the husband would be concerned that she was late and something happened to her. She expected him to ask her why she was late. To horror, he didn't ask her why she was late. He was only concerned about the money.
This was the beginning. Later a doctor neighbor volunteered to help teach the husband the strategies of getting into residency programs. He became a frequent visitor to the house. Before long, the neighbor decided to divorce his wife and marry this doctor who divorced her husband. Two divorces within a short period of time! Reasons? No understanding, doubts, suspicions. The only person who can understand and heal is Jesus.
