Thoughts for the (Christmas) Season

by: K. J. Koshy, Chengannur

We all know that our worship year consists of a cycle of 6 seasons as follows:

1. Suboro to Yeldho
2.Yeldho to Kothine
3. Kothine to Kyamtha
4.Kyamtha to Pentakosthi
5. Pentakosthi to Sleeba
6. Sleeba to Suboro

Period of Advent and the 25 days lent (Christmas Lent) are the important events during the Suboro Season. During the period of Advent, we prepare ourselves to receive the Yeldho (Child Jesus) in our heart. Suboro and the period of Advent are ending with the Christmas, the Birth of Christ and we are now going to enter into Period of Yeldho, which is the second season of the Worship year.

Why this Period Yeldho is important in the life of an orthodox believer?

Read Luke 2:11.
"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior which is Christ the Lord."

and Luke 2:40 reads as follows:
"And the Child grew and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him."

During Yeldho period we meditate on the purpose of the birth of Jesus Christ, which is pronounced to the shepherds by the angel; For unto you is born a child in Bethlehem the city of David;
For unto you is born a child who is the Savior of the people from their sin;
For unto you is born a child which is Christ the Lord who is the Savior of the people from their sin.

Matthew 1:21 says:
"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins."

St Peter Proclaims in the Acts 4:12:
"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, where by we must be saved."

For unto us, a child is born, unto us a Son is given. (Isaiah 9:6)

In every man's life there are three stages: Childhood, youth and old age. Normally a man in his childhood is so nice, obedient and dependent on parents. But as he enters into youth he slowly changes He is attracted towards the worldly pleasures, turn rebellious, commit sin etc. and goes away from God. But as he reaches old age he again starts calling upon God.

But Jesus grew and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

Let us see in Jesus, a role model, a significant other. Let us not deviate from God even in our youth. Let us meditate on `CHRIST' during this season and all through our life in this world, for there is none other name under heaven given among men, where by we must be saved."

C - Child, For unto us, a Child is born, unto us a Son is given. (Yeldho means Child). (Isaiah 9:6)

H - Holy, He is Holy, He is the son of God (Luke 1:35)

R - Redeemer. He is the redeemer, for he shall save his people from their sins.( Matthew 1:21)

I - Incarnate. He is the word Incarnate. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us. (John 1:14)

S - Savior. He is the Savior, For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior which is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:11)

T - Truth. He is the Truth. Jesus said unto Thomas: "I am the way, the truth and the life-" (John 14:6)

May the Holy Spirit of God help us to be in Christ this season and for ever.

Wish you all a Very Merry Christmas.
